STABILIZING ADDITIVE FOR ACIDIC BITUMEN EMULSIONS USED IN COATING AGGREGATES /IN FRENCH/

THE ADDITIVE COMPRISES AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF A MIXTURE OF A WATER-SOLUBLE SALT AND GELATIN OR CASEIN. THUS, TO 100 PARTS OF A MIXTURE OF DIORITE SAND AND SEINE SAND (60:40), A SOLUTION OF I-HCI-GELATIN (40:60) IS ADDED TO GIVE A CONCENTRATION OF 0.05-0.25% OF DRY WEIGHT ADDITIVE. THIS IS MIXED WITH A 60% ACIDIC EMULSION OF BITUMEN. BY THIS MEANS, MIXING CAN BE CARRIED OUT FOR UP TO 4 MINUTES BEFORE THE EMULSION BEGINS TO BREAK, EVEN AT TEMPERATURES OF 50-70 DEGREES. /LCPC/A/RRL/
