FULL-SCALE TRIALS TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF ANTI-STRIPPING ADDITIVES ON THE LIFE OF BITUMEN MACADAM SURFACINGS: DETAILS OF THE TRIALS IN PROGRESS

A SERIES OF FULL-SCALE TRIALS TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT ON THE DURABILITY OF BITUMEN-MACADAM WEARING-COURSES OF PREVENTING OR MARKEDLY REDUCING THE STRIPPING CAUSED BY THE ACTION OF WATER IS DESCRIBED. THE TRIALS ARE PROVIDING INFORMATION ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIFFERENT ANTI-STRIPPING ADDITIVES UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS. THE TRIAL SECTIONS ARE BEING KEPT UNDER OBSERVATION AND SMALL SAMPLES ARE REMOVED PERIODICALLY FROM THE SURFACING. A VISUAL ASSESSMENT IS MADE OF THE EXTENT TO WHICH STRIPPING HAS OCCURRED AND THIS IS BEING COMPARED WITH THE GENERAL PERFORMANCE OF EACH SECTION. /RRL/A/
