THE SPADINA INTERCHANGE ON HIGHWAY 401 IS THE LARGEST AND MOST COMPLICATED INTERCHANGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN CANADA. IT CONTAINS 24 BRIDGES AND IS LOCATED AT THE INTERSECTION OF TWO MAJOR FREEWAYS. MOST OF THE DESIGN INNOVATIONS ARE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE INTERCHANGE REQUIRES SO MANY STRUCTURES IN A VERY SMALL AREA. THIS LED TO THE USE OF POST-TENSIONED, CAST-IN-PLACE CONTINUOUS SLABS. POST- TENSIONING LEADS TO SOME PROBLEMS, PARTICULARLY FRICTION IN STRESSING LONG SPANS AND EFFECTIVE GROUTING METHODS. /CGRA/
