THE APPLICATION OF ULTRASONICS FOR EXTRACTION OF BITUMEN FROM ASPHALTIC MIXTURES BY A PROCESS ANALAGOUS TO THAT OF CLEANING CONTAMINATED SURFACES IS DESCRIBED. TRICHLORETHYLENE IS USED AS A SOLVENT. THE TEST TEMPERATURE IS 60 DEGREES C. THE TEST IS CARRIED OUT ON 550 GM. OF THE MIXTURE IN A BATH OF 12 LITRES OF TRICHLOROETHYLENE. THE FREQUENCY IS 40 KHZ. THE DURATION OF THE TEST IS ABOUT 9 MINUTES. THE MEAN EXPERIMENTAL ERROR IS APPROX 1.4% AND IS DUE PRINCIPALLY TO THE LOSS OF FILLER THROUGH THE FILTER. /RRL/
