USE OF THE PRODUCT RD FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF PAVEMENTS WITH A STABILIZED ROADBASE /IN FRENCH/

A NUMBER OF STUDIES OF THE USE OF THE PRODUCT OF THE DEFLECTION BY THE RADIUS OF CURVATURE (RD) AS A COMPLEMENT TO DEFLECTION MEASUREMENTS ARE SYNTHESIZED. THE ELASTIC THEORY SHOWS THAT, IN A 2-COURSE SYSTEM, THE SURFACE DEFLECTION IS APPROXIMATELY PROPORTIONAL TO THE MAXIMUM TENSILE DEFORMATION AT THE INTERFACE. ASSUMING THAT A STRENGTHENED PAVEMENT IS IDENTICAL TO A THREE-LAYER SYSTEM IT IS POSSIBLE TO DEDUCE THE MAXIMUM TENSILE DEFORMATION OF THE STRENGTHENED LAYER FROM THE DEFLECTION IF THE THICKNESS OF THE EXISTING SUBBASE, BASE AND SURFACING, AND THE RELATION OF THEIR RIGIDITY TO THAT OF THE SUBGRADE ARE KNOWN. THE CONTRIBUTION MADE BY THE PRODUCT RD TO THE EVALUATION OF THIS RELATIVE RIDIGITY IS STUDIED. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF AN APPARATUS FOR RECORDING DEFLECTION LINES OF INFLUENCE, AND AN APPROXIMATE FORMULA IS PROPOSED FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE RADIUS OF SUMMIT CURVATURE AND THE PRODUCT RD. SEVERAL METHODS OF EVALUATING THE RESULTS ARE OUTLINED. /LCPC(A)/RRL/
