APPARATUS FOR MEASURING CURVATURE, AND POSSIBILITIES FOR ITS PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS /IN GERMAN/

THE RADIUS OF CURVATURE ON THE SURFACE OF A ROAD STRUCTURE IS AN IMPORTANT PARAMETER FOR EVALUATING BEARING CAPACITY AND STATE OF STRESS WITHIN THE BONDED LAYERS. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF AN APPARATUS DEVELOPED IN THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC TO MEASURE RADIUS OF CURVATURE, WHICH WHEN USED IN CONJUCTION WITH THE BENKELMAN BEAM GIVES EXTREMELY ACCURATE RESULTS. WHEREAS IN DEFLECTION MEASUREMENTS THE RESULTS ARE AFFECTED BY ELASTIC BEHAVIOR OF THE FOUNDATION, MEASUREMENTS OBTAINED WITH THIS EQUIPMENT ARE INFLUENCED BY THE RIGIDITY OF THE UPPER LAYERS OF THE PAVEMENT. A SIMPLE CALCULATION METHOD FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN OF REINFORCEMENT IS ILLUSTRATED. /FG/RRL/
