THE WASHO ROAD TEST

THE WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF STATE HIGHWAY OFFICIALS OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED WASHO ROAD TEST AS THE NAME OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT NOW BEING CONDUCTED BY THE HIGHWAY RESEARCH BOARD NEAR MALAD, IDAHO. THE PRINCIPLE PURPOSE OF THIS TEST IS TO DETERMINE RELATIVE EFFECTS OF FOUR DIFFERENT AXLE LOADINGS ON TWO THICKNESSES OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVEMENT OVER VARIOUS THICKNESSES OF GRANULAR BASE. THE WASHO TEST MAY PROVIDE ADDITIONAL BASIC KNOWLEDGE, WHICH WILL HELP IN ARRIVING AT RATIONAL DESIGN PROCEDURES AND MAY PROVIDE A FIRMER BASIS FOR ESTABLISHING LOAD LIMITS ON EXISTING ROADS.
