COMPUTER SIMULATION FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE IN ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PRODUCTION

THE AUTHOR HAS DEVELOPED A COMPUTER MODEL TO SIMULATE BITUMINOUS PLANT AGGREGATE HOT BIN PRODUCTION USING TIME- SERIES HOT BIN DATA OBTAINED FROM DAILY PRODUCTION OF 21 PLANTS. A COMPUTER PROGRAM WRITTEN IN FORTRAN IV FOR USE WITH BURROUGHA B 5500 OR IBM 360 COMPUTERS WAS USED TO GENERATE PRODUCTION DATA. A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO SIMULATE DRIFT OF MEAN IS INCLUDED AS THIS TREND WAS EVIDENT IN OVER 50% OF PLANTS AND ESPECIALLY IN BINS CONTAINING LARGEST SIZE FRACTION. PROGRAM ALSO TEST NORMALITY OF DATA USING W-STATISTIC, PLOTS DATA, CALCULATES NORMAL AND LOGNORMAL VARIATES, CALCULATES SAMPLING AND TESTING ERROR, CALCULATES PERCENT CONFORMANCE TO JOB MIX FORMULA AND PERFORMS REGRESSION ANALYSIS TO EVALUATE INTER- AND INTRA- BIN GRADATION CORRFLATIONS. /FHWA/
