LAYERED SYSTEM ANALYSIS FOR VARYING VALUES OF POISSON RATIO

BURMISTER'S DEFLECTION CURVES, AS RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN U. S. NAVY METHOD FOR DESIGNING OF HIGHWAY AND AIRFIELD PAVEMENT LAYERS, UTILIZE A POISSON'S RATIO VALUE OF 0.5. DIFFERENT REINFORCING LAYERS OF THE FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT STRUCTURE POSSESS DIFFERENT VALUES OF VARYING FROM 0.15 FOR CEMENT CONCRETE TO 0.5 FOR SUBGRADE. THE SETTLEMENT COEFFICIENT WOULD THEREFORE BE DIFFERENT FOR VARYING PAVEMENT MATERIALS FOR CONSTANT RATIO OF H/R AND STRENGTH RATIO. BASIC SETTLEMENT EQUATION OF BURMISTER'S LAYERED SYSTEM THEORY IS EXTENDED HEREIN TO COVER ANY VALUE OF POISSON'S RATIO IN THE TWO LAYERS WITH FULL CONTINUITY CONDITION ACROSS THE INTERFACE. NUMERICAL RESULTS AND BASIC INFLUENCE CURVES HAVE BEEN PREPARED FOR FIFTEEN SETS OF POISSON'S RATIOS AND FOR TWENTY VALUES OF STRENGTH RATIO. /AUTHOR/
