BEHAVIOR ON PAVEMENT COMPONENT MATERIALS UNDER REPEATED LOADS AND A SUGGESTED DESIGN APPROACH

THE VALIDITY IS INVESTIGATED OF TESTS USED TO EVALUATE THE STRENGTH OF PAVEMENT COMPONENTS FOR THE BASIS OF HIGHWAY DESIGN. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE BEHAVIOR OF PAVEMENT MATERIALS UNDER STATIC LOAD TESTS IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THEIR ACTUAL FIELD BEHAVIOR. THE CONCEPT OF REPEATED LOADING IS USED AS A MORE REALISTIC METHOD OF SIMULATING PAVEMENT BEHAVIOR, AND A MORE EFFECTIVE MEANS OF TESTING COMPONENT MATERIALS. /RRL/
