BASIC CONSIDERATIONS OF THE AASHO ROAD TEST (IN GERMAN)

THE AUTHOR IS CONVINCED THAT THE RESULTS OF THE ASSHO ROAD TEST ARE NOT SUITABLE AS A DESIGN BASIS FOR NEW ROADS. THE BEHAVIORAL FUNCTIONS OF THE AASHO ROAD TEST DEPEND ON THE STANDARD OF TRAFFICABILITY. ON THIS PRINCIPLE, HOWEVER, NEITHER IN GERMANY, NOR IN THE REST OF EUROPE HAS ANY EXPERIENCE BEEN GAINED WITH REGARD TO THE BEHAVIOR OF NORMAL ROADS. ALL PREVIOUS COMPARISONS ARE BASED MORE OR LESS ON NON-MATHEMATICALLY FOUNDED ESTIMATIONS. THE USE OF THE BENKELMAN BEAM, WHICH IS APPLIED EXTENSIVELY IN THE AASHO ROAD TEST, MIGHT WARRANT CONSIDERATION. THIS METHOD PROVIDES A MEANS WITH WHICH TO DETERMINE THE EVENNESS OF THE CONSTRUCTION, THE BEARING CAPACITY, ETC. AT ANY MOMENT. IN THIS WAY LOCAL IRREGULARITIES OR THE BEGINNING OF DEFORMATIONS CAN BE ASCERTAINED. /FG/RRL/
