FINAL REPORT ON STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF WATER ACTION ON BITUMINOUS MIXTURES

A MODIFIED METHOD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR USING THE ASTM TRACER SALT TECHNIQUE FOR MEASURING THE PERCENTAGE OF STRIPPING OF THE TOTAL MIX GRADATION. STUDIES INDICATE THAT THE REPEATABILITY OF THE MODIFIED TRACER SALT METHOD IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE DYE SOLUTION PROCEDURE. THE PERCENTAGE OF STRIPPING DETERMINED BY THE DYE AND TRACER SALT METHODS WAS COMPARED WITH THE SURFACE WATER ABRASION TEST RESULTS ON A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT AGGREGATES. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE ABRASION LOSS AND PERCENTAGE OF STRIPPING ARE RELATED. /AUTHOR/
