MUNICIPAL ASPHALT BASE STUDY

THIS STUDY HAS BEEN CONDUCTED TO REVIEW THE USE AND PERFORMANCE OF ASPHALT BASE AS AN ELEMENT OF MUNICIPAL PAVEMENT. FULL THICKNESS BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS CONSTRUCTED IN SIX CITIES IN NEBRASKA AND KANSAS, FOR WHICH DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE, HAVE BEEN REEXAMINED. A REVIEW OF SPECIFICATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION RECORDS PROVIDED THE BULK OF THE DATA PRESENTED RELATIVE TO DESIGN, MATERIALS, AND CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES. IN SOME CASES, PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WITH CONTRACTORS AND CONSTRUCTION PERSONNEL YIELDED INFORMATION CONCERNING MATERIALS AND DESIGN. AN ON-SITE INSPECTION OF EACH PROJECT WAS MADE. THIS INSPECTION EVALUATED THE PRESENT CONDITION OF THE PAVEMENT AS WELL AS THE AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. /NAPA/
