SUITE OF BRIDGE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS PROGRAMS. PROGRAM HECB B.1 (CON-BEM). REACTIVE ANALYSIS OF CONTINUOUS BEAMS

THIS MANUAL DESCRIBES A PROGRAM FOR THE REACTIVE ANALYSIS OF CONTINUOUS BEAMS HECB.B.1(COMBEM). THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN WRITTEN IN FORTRAN 4 FOR TELETYPE TERMINAL USE ON AN IBM 360/65 OPERATING UNDER RTS, BUT IT CAN BE MODIFIED TO SUIT OTHER COMPUTERS. CONBEM ANALYZES CONTINUOUS BEAMS WITH UP TO SEVEN SPANS, IN EACH OF WHICH THE SECOND MOMENT OF AREA MAY BE CONSTANT OR VARIABLE. THE PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR DIRECT USE BY DESIGN ENGINEERS ON A TELETYPE COMPUTER TERMINAL WHERE RESULTS ARE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE. ANY NUMBER OF LOAD CASES, INCLUDING PRESTRESSING, MAY BE ANALYZED AND THE RESULTS COMBINED. ENVELOPES OF MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM BENDING MOMENTS, SHEAR FORCES, AND REACTIONS CAN BE CALCULATED AND PRINTED OUT AS REQUIRED. A SPECIAL FEATURE OF THE PROGRAM IS THE ABILITY TO CORRECT WRONGLY ENTERED DATA AND TO MODIFY THE STRUCTURE TO TAKE IN COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION CALCULATIONS. ALL INPUT DATA IS IN FREE FORMAT AND THE PROGRAM RESPONDS TO SIMPLE COMMANDS BY WHICH THE USER CONTROLS THE COURSE OF THE CALCULATIONS. AS THE PROGRAM IS CONVERSATIONAL THE USER CAN DECIDE AT ANY TIME WHAT FURTHER CALCULATIONS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT AND WHICH RESULTS SHOULD BE STORED ON FILE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. /AUTHOR/
