STATIC AND DYNAMIC LOAD TESTS ON PRESTRESSED PAVEMENT SLABS

STATIC AND DYNAMIC LOAD TESTS WERE CONDUCTED ON AN EXPERIMENTAL AREA OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE PAVEMENT SECTIONS. VARIABLES INCLUDED' SLAB THICKNESS, VARIABLE LOADS, TRANSVERSAL AND LONGITUDINAL PRESTRESS, CENTER, EDGE, AND CORNER LOADING, LOAD POINT OVER SUPPORTED AND UNSUPPORTED AREAS, AND EDGE-STRENGTHENED BY A PERIMETER BEAM. IN THE DYNAMIC TESTS A CATHODE RAY OSCILLOSCOPE WAS USED TO RECORD DEFLECTION. IN THE STATIC LOAD TESTS STRAIN GAGES WERE USED TO RECORD DEFLECTION. SENSOR STRIPS WERE USED TO RECORD CRACKING. A CALCULATION WAS MADE OF THE CRACKING LOAD BY USING THE YIELD LINE THEORY AND BY ASSUMING A PARABOLA - SHAPED STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN THE FLEXURAL TENSILE AREA.
