A REVIEW OF THE PROBLEMS OF WIND RESISTANT DESIGN OF STRUCTURES

WIND EFFECTS ON STRUCTURES ARE CLASSIFIED AND DESCRIBED ANALYTICALLY. ESTIMATION OF WIND VELOCITY, COMPUTATION OF AERODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS, AND DESIGN OF STRUCTURES FOR RIGIDITY ARE THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF WIND RESISTANT DESIGN. RESULTS OF INVESTIGATIONS ARE SUMMARIZED, AND SOME OF THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN ESTIMATION OF WIND VELOCITY AND PRESSURE, STATIC WIND LOADS, RANDOM VIBRATION, AEOLIAN VIBRATION, AND SELF-EXCITED VIBRATION ARE POINTED OUT. IT IS PROPOSED THAT AEOLIAN VIBRATION AND RANDOM VIBRATION BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN WIND RESISTANT DESIGN.
