REVIEW OF CURRENT ICE TECHNOLOGY AND EVALUATION OF RESEARCH PRIORITIES

THIS COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF ICE TECHNOLOGY IN RELATION TO INLAND WATERS SURVEYS SPECIFIC PROBLEM AREAS AND MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS ON CONTROL FOR ECONOMIC BENEFITS. ICE IMPACT LOADS, WHICH VARY WIDELY IN MAGNITUDE, ARE DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO STRUCTURES SUCH AS BRIDGES, CAUSEWAYS, AND ROAD CULVERTS. HOVERCRAFT ARE SHOWN TO BE THE ONLY TECHNICALLY FEASIBLE YEAR-ROUND GROUND TRANSPORT IN THE CANADIAN NORTH. THERE IS ALSO DATA ON CONSTRUCTION OF ICE RUNWAYS, BRIDGES AND ROADS.
