STEPPED CUTBACK SLOPES

THE WALLOWA-WHITMAN NATIONAL FOREST HAS IMPLEMENTED A POLICY REQUIRING STEPPED CUTBACK SLOPES IN SELECTED COMMON EARTH OR RIPPABLE ROCK WHERE THE CUT SLOPE EXCEEDS 7 FEET IN HEIGHT AND THE DESIGNED BACKSLOPE RATIO VARIES FROM 3/4 0.75:1 TO 2.1. A DIAGRAM SHOWING STEPPED SLOPE DETAIL INCLUDES CONSTRUCTION NOTES. THE ADVANTAGES OF STEPPED CUTBANK SLOPED INCLUDE REDUCTION OF DITCH LINE MAINTENANCE, REDUCTION OF EROSION, EARLY GROWTH OF VEGETATION, AND IMPROVEMENT OF VISUAL EXPANSE FOR THE ROAD USER. /AUTHOR/
