HYDRAULIC THEORY OF CONCRETE PUMPING

THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE MOVEMENT OF PLASTIC CONCRETE THROUGH A PIPE AND HOSE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM ARE DISCUSSED FOR THE MAN ON THE JOB AS WELL AS THE ENGINEER. LAMINAR AND "PLUG" FLOW ARE DESCRIBED ALONG WITH LIMITING VELOCITIES UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS. THE RELATION BETWEEN THE RATE OF CONCRETE DELIVERY, PIPE SIZE, AND VELOCITY ARE DESCRIBED. THE FUNDAMENTALS OF FRICTIONAL RESISTANCE AND VERTICAL LIFTING ARE HANDLED IN DETAIL. A STUDY OF CONCRETE MOVEMENT THROUGH REDUCERS AND BENDS IS ALSO INCLUDED. METHODS OF CALCULATING THE PRESSURE AND HORSEPOWER REQUIREMENTS BY FORMULAS AND GRAPHS ARE INCLUDED FOR ANY TYPE OF PUMP. A SIMPLE SYSTEM OF ANALYZING SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR NORMAL WEIGHT AND LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE PUMP PLACEMENT ARE COVERED BY SPECIFIC EXAMPLES. /AUTHOR/
