INVESTIGATION INTO THE DETERMINATION OF DEFECTS IN CONCRETE BY USING ULTRASONIC METHODS

THE CONDITIONS OF ULTRASONIC PULSE PROPAGATION IN DEFECTIVE CONCRETE ARE STUDIED. AN EQUATION IS PRESENTED WHICH DESCRIBES ELASTIC WAVE PROPAGATION IN POROUS MEDIA, AND IT IS SHOWN THAT A SIMPLE MATHEMATICAL RELATION EXPRESSES THE RELATION EXISTING BETWEEN THE CHARACTERISTICS OF ULTRASONIC WAVES DURING THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TEST OF DEFECTIVE CONCRETE. RESULTS ARE GIVEN OF RESEARCH INTO THE SENSITIVITY OF THE ULTRASONIC METHOD OF DETECTING DEFECTS ON CALIBRATED CONCRETE SAMPLES. THE RATIO OF THE CAVITY DIAMETER TO THE WAVE LENGTH AND PULSE CHARACTERISTICS IS CALCULATED, AND CHARTS ARE PRESENTED FOR DETERMINING THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DEFECTS.
