CURING OF CONCRETE BY LOW PRESSURE STEAM

THIS NOTE DESCRIBES THE STEAM-CURING CYCLE OF CONCRETE DEFINED BY FOUR PHASES: A "PRE-SETTING" CURING PERIOD, A PERIOD OF TEMPERATURE RISE, AN ISOTHERMAL PERIOD, AND A COOLING PERIOD. THE ADVANTAGES OF THE METHOD ARE OUTLINED: SAVINGS IN FORMWORKS, SAVINGS IN TIME, POSSIBILITY OF RAPID APPLICATION OF PRESTRESSING. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE STEAM-CURING EQUIPMENT AND CONTROL DEVICES. CONTROL TESTS AND DYNAMIC AUSCULTATION ARE OUTLINED. A DEFINITION IS GIVEN OF THE MATURITY FACTORS AND THEIR RELATION TO THE TEMPERATURE PROFILE. A CORRELATION WAS ESTABLISHED BETWEEN THE MATURITY FACTOR AND THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE NEED FOR EXTREME CAUTION AS REGARDS THE USE OF ADMIXTURES. /LCPC-RRL/
