STUDIES OF THE PROPERTIES OF LIGHTWEIGHT BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS AND THEIR APPLICATION TO HIGHWAY BRIDGES

BASED ON A BIBLIOGRAPHIC SEARCH AND OBSERVATIONS ON BRIDGE SURFACINGS, A STUDY IS PRESENTED OF THE PROPERTIES OF BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS USED FOR HIGHWAY BRIDGES. LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS WERE CONDUCTED INTO (1) THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE ADHESION OF BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS TO CONCRETE AND STEEL SLABS, AND (2) THE STRENGTH OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES AS A FUNCTION OF THE NATURE AND GRADING OF AGGREGATES. OBSERVATIONS ARE INCLUDED WHICH WERE CARRIED OUT ON 3 EXPERIMENTAL SURFACINGS LAID ON REINFORCED CONCRETE BRIDGES TOGETHER WITH DATA ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BRIDGE DECK PROJECTS, SELECTION OF INGREDIENTS FOR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES, LAYING TECHNIQUES, AND LABORATORY TEST METHODS. /TRRL/
