FUNCTIONAL RELIABILITY OF STRUCTURES

A GENERAL THEORETICAL FOUNDATION OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEM RELIABILITY ANALYSIS IS PRESENTED. BOTH AN ANALYTICAL AND A NUMERICAL FORMULATION FOR EVALUATING A RELATIVE RELIABILITY MEASURE OF A STRUCTURAL SYSTEM ARE DEVELOPED IN WHICH GENERAL RANDOM FACTORS AFFECTING BOTH STRENGTH AND LOADING CAN BE INCLUDED. THE FUNCTIONAL RELIABILITY OF A SUSPENSION BRIDGE UNDER STATIC LOADING IS ANALYZED AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE FORMULATION AND NUMERICAL PROCEDURES. THE EFFECT OF THE DEAD WEIGHT AS A PROOF LOAD ON THE STRUCTURE IS STUDIED. /DOT/
