PROPOSED POLICY STATEMENT ON UTILITY ACCOMMODATION ON FEDERAL HIGHWAYS

THE DEVELOPMENT AND PRESERVATION OF SAFE ROADSIDES ON FEDERAL-AID HIGHWAYS IS SOUGHT. THE PROPOSED POLICY STATEMENT ASKS THE STATES TO RE-EXAMINE THEIR EXISTING UTILITY ACCOMMODATION POLICIES AND TO MODIFY THEM AS NECESSARY TO MEET THE SAFE ROADSIDE CONCEPT. IT DOES NOT DENY THE USE OF HIGHWAY RIGHT OF WAY BY UTILITY FACILITIES. IT DOES NOT ADVOCATE A MASSIVE REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR REMOVING EXISTING POLE LINES. IT CONCERNS PRIMARILY THE INSTALLATION OF NEW FACILITIES, NOT THE RELOCATION OF EXISTING ONES. /AUTHOR/
