HIDING AUTO GRAVEYARDS

THE NEW SELKIRK ACT IN NEW YORK IMPOSES STRICT REGULATIONS ON AUTOMOBILE JUNKYARDS ALONG HIGHWAYS. SUCH JUNKYARD OWNERS ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AN ANNUAL LICENSE OF $25 FROM THE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY. A PUBLIC HEARING MUST BE HELD AND A LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT MUST BE INSERTED IN A LOCAL NEWSPAPER BEFORE A NEW LICENSE IS GRANTED. LOCATION OF ANY NEW AUTOMOBILE JUNKYARD IS FORBIDDEN WITHIN 500 FT OF A CHURCH, SCHOOL, HOSPITAL, OR OTHER PLACE OF PUBLIC ASSEMBLY. AN 8-FT FENCE OR NATURAL LANDSCAPING MUST SURROUND THE JUNKYARD. FENCING FOR ALL AUTO JUNKYARDS MUST BE AT LEAST 50 FT FROM THE HIGHWAY AND MUST HAVE LOCKED GATES DURING NON-WORKING HOURS. ALL STORED MOTOR VEHICLES AND PARTS MUST BE KEPT WITHIN THE ENCLOSURE, AND ALL WRECKING OR OTHER WORK ON THE VEHICLES MUST BE DONE WITHIN THE FENCES.
