CAPACITY OF STORM DRAIN INLETS

MODELS OF ONE-HALF AND ONE-THIRD SCALES WERE TESTED AND COMPARED WITH FULL-SIZE INLETS TESTED IN THE FIELD. THE TESTS SIMULATED A RANGE OF CONDITIONS WHICH INCLUDED (A) CURB OPENINGS IN A STRAIGHT GUTTER; (B) GRATE INLETS WITH LONGITUDINAL BARS IN A STRAIGHT GUTTER; AND, (C) CURB- OPENING INLETS WITH GUTTER DEPRESSIONS. FROM THE DATA THUS DEVELOPED CERTAIN FORMULAS FOR INLETS CAPACITIES WERE DERIVED. ALSO FOR SOME OF THE DESIGNS AND CONDITIONS STUDIED, GRAPHS FOR QUICK SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN PREPARED. /HRB/
