NEW METHOD FOR PLACING ROAD SURFACING, ETC. ON SOFT SOIL (IN DUTCH)

THIS NEW METHOD CAN BE USED NOT ONLY FOR PLACING HARD ROAD TOPS ON SOFT OR MARSHY SOIL (MOTOR ROADS, RAILROADS, RUNWAYS) BUT IS ALSO APPLICABLE FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS. THE INVENTION RELATES TO A THIN SLAB OF REINFORCED CONCRETE, STIFFENED BY PREFABRICATED CONCRETE TUBES WHICH ARE DUG IN UNDER THE CONCRETE SLAB. THE RIGID SLAB FULLY REPLACES THE USUAL SAND BED WHICH IS TO DISTRIBUTE THE WHEEL LOAD. COMPARED WITH THE CONVENTIONAL STRUCTURES, THE NEW METHOD OFFERS THE FOLLOWING ADVANTAGES: MAJOR SAVINGS IN LABOR, MATERIALS AND, PARTICULARLY, TIME; GREATER BEARING CAPACITY, WITHOUT THE NECESSITY OF SUBSEQUENT REINFORCEMENT IF WHEEL LOADS INCREASE; AND INCONVENIENT EXPANSION JOINTS IN RUNWAYS ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED. /AUTHOR/
