CARIBOU - POKER CREEKS RESEARCH WATERSHED, INTERIOR ALASKA - BACKGROUND AND CURRENT STATUS

THE CARIBOU-POKER CREEKS RESEARCH WATERSHED WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1969 AS A SITE FOR COOPERATIVE, INTERAGENCY INVESTIGATION OF HYDROLOGIC AND RELATED ASPECTS OF A SUBARTIC ENVIRONMENT. THE RELATIVELY UNDISTURBED 40-SQUARE- MILE DRAINAGE BASIN INCLUDES BOTH PERMAFROST-DOMINATED AND NON-PERMAFROST WATERSHEDS, AND HAS A VARIETY OF VEGETATION COMMUNITIES. INITIAL RESEARCH IS DIRECTED TO FURTHERING UNDERSTANDING OF HYDROLOGIC BEHAVIOR OF NORTH-FACING (PERMAFROST) AND SOUTH-FACING (NON-PERMAFROST) BASINS IN THIS UPLAND SETTING. /AUTHOR/
