A NEW METHOD OF CONSTRUCTING ROADS ON SOFT SOIL (IN GERMAN)

THE NEW DESIGN COMPRISES A THIN REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB, 10-15 CM THICK, BONDED TO A SUITABLE SUPPORTING SYSTEM WHICH CONSISTS OF VERTICAL PRECAST REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPES ASSEMBLED IN THE SOIL BENEATH THE SLAB. THE PIPES HAVE AN EXTERNAL DIAMETER OF 1-1.5 M AND A WALL THICKNESS OF 7-10 CM. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE PIPES IS 2-2.5 M. THE BOTTOM OF THE PIPE IS APPROXIMATELY 2-3 M BELOW THE ROAD SURFACE, DEPENDING ON THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE SOIL. /AUTHOR/
