A TECHNIQUE FOR ANALYSIS OF RUNOFF HYDROGRAPHS

AN INVERSE SQUARE TRANSFORMATION OF THE PEARSON TYPE III FUNCTION HAS BEEN UTILIZED TO FIT SINGLE PEAK RUNOFF HYDROGRAPHS. THE FUNCTION HAS ONLY ONE PARAMETER, BUT DIFFERENT VALUES ARE ESTIMATED FOR THE RISING AND FALLING PORTION OF THE HYDROGRAPH. THE TWO LIMBS OF THE HYDROGRAPH ARE MATCHED AT THE HYDROGRAPH PEAK. FITTING AND GOODNESS-OF-FIT TECHNIQUES, AND PLOTTING OF THE OBSERVED AND CALCULATED HYDROGRAPHS HAVE BEEN FULLY AUTOMATED. THE PROCEDURE HAS BEEN TESTED ON A SAMPLE OF 135 HYDROGRAPHS, AND SOME PRELIMINARY ANALYSES HAVE BEEN OBTAINED. /AUTHOR/
