THE USE OF THE INDIRECT TENSILE TEST FOR THE SITE CONTROL OF PAVEMENT QUALITY CONCRETES

THE OBJECTS WERE (1) TO ESTIMATE THE VARIABILITY OF THE CYLINDER SPLITTING TEST WHEN USED UNDER SITE CONDITIONS AND TO COMPARE THE RESULTS WITH THOSE OBTAINED AT THE SAME TIME FOR THE CUBE CRUSHING TEST; (2) TO COMPARE RESULTS OBTAINED UNDER SITE CONDITIONS FROM LARGER AND SMALLER DIAMETER CYLINDERS; (3) TO GIVE SOME INFORMATION ON THE PRACTICABILITY FOR SITE USE OF CYLINDERS MOLDED IN CARDBOARD TUBES AS COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL STEEL MOLDS; AND (4) TO PROVIDE DATA ON THE OVERALL VARIABILITY OF BOTH TESTS WHICH ARISES FROM VARIATIONS IN MATERIALS, PROCESSING, SAMPLING, AND TESTING. TEST PROCEDURES ARE DESCRIBED, AND RESULTS PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. /RRL/
