STAGE CONSTRUCTION OF TWO-LANE ROADS: ITS ECONOMY AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE (IN FINNISH)

THE ECONOMIC JUSTIFICATION IS INVESTIGATED OF STAGE CONSTRUCTION. THE FACTORS CONSIDERED ARE ROAD CROSS-SECTION, ORGANIZATION OF CONSTRUCTION WORK, TRAFFIC MEASURES DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION, INITIAL TRAFFIC VOLUME, AND RATE OF TRAFFIC GROWTH DURING THE PERIOD STUDIED. FINDINGS SHOW THAT STAGE CONSTRUCTION IS AN ECONOMICAL PROPOSITION WHEN THE INITIAL TRAFFIC VOLUME IS LOW, AND WHEN THE CROSS-SECTION IS WIDENED TO A CONSIDERABLE EXTENT. /RRL
