GENERALIZED PROFILES OF GRADUALLY VARIED FLOW

A PATTERN OF SIMILARITY IS ESTABLISHED BY MEANS OF ANALYTICAL AND DIMENSIONAL ANALYSES IN THE NONDIMENSIONAL FORMS OF WATER-SURFACE PROFILES OF GRADUALLY VARIED FLOW ON MILD AND STEEP SLOPES IN WIDE CHANNELS. WITHIN EACH CLASS, THE PROFILES ARE FOUND TO FORM AN ORDERED SERIES RANKED ACCORDING TO THE FROUDE NUMBERS OF THE CORRESPONDING UNIFORM FLOWS. SETS OF PROFILES ARE PRESENTED IN FOUR CHARTS, WHICH READILY YIELD APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS OF PROFILES ON MILD AND STEEP SLOPES. /ASCE/
