TWO ROAD TUNNELS EACH ABOUT 600 FT LONG HAVE RECENTLY BEEN COSTRUCTED NEAR MONMOUTH ON THE NEW MIDLANDS ROAD, WHICH WILL TAKE THE PLACE OF THE EXISTING NEWPORT TO WORCESTER TRUNK ROAD, BETWEEN NEWPORT AND MONMOUTH. AN ACCOUNT IS GIVEN OF THE PREDESIGN INVESTIGATIONS. A MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF THE GEOLOGY DISCOVERED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION. THIS AGREES WELL WITH THE PREDICTED GEOLOGY.
