TEST SECTIONS S.C.R.C.-COMMITTEE: THE APPLICATION OF THE RUBBER-TIRED ROLLER-TENTATIVE RESULTS 1967 /DUTCH/

TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER THE COMPACTION OF THICK LAYERS OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE BY THE RUBBER-TIRED ROLLER AND INTO THE "HOT AND DRY" ROLLING METHOD, TEST SECTIONS WERE CONSTRUCTED OF GRAVEL-SAND-ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVEMENT WITH AN OVERALL THICKNESS OF 18 CM. VARIATIONS WERE MADE IN THE NUMBER AND THE THICKNESSES OF THE LAYERS (3 LAYERS OF 6 CM, 2 OF 9 CM, ONE 12 CM PLUS ONE 6 CM, AND A SINGLE LAYER 18 CM), THE COMPOSITION OF THE MIXTURE, AND THE USE OF THE FINISHING MACHINE. THE TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS OF THE FRESH-LAID PAVEMENT AT DIFFERENT DEPTHS WERE RECORDED, AND THE DEGREE OF COMPACTION AND VOLUME WEIGHT WERE MEASURED ON DRILLED CORES. THESE DATA WERE ANALYZED STATISTICALLY. EVENNESS MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE ON THE VARIOUS LAYERS. THE RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED AND SOME TENTATIVE CONCLUSIONS ARE DRAWN. /SWOV/RRL/
