AUTOMATIC SCREED CONTROL SYSTEMS ON BLACK-TOP PAVERS

THE DEVELOPMENT OF PAVING MACHINE AUTOMATIC SCREED CONTROL SYSTEMS FROM CIRCA 1962 ONWARDS IS GIVEN. THEIR FUNCTIONS, CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES FROM A CONTRACTORS POINT OF VIEW ARE DISCUSSED AND SOME OF THE RESULTANT TECHNIQUES OF APPLICATION ON BLACK-TOP PAVING ARE DESCRIBED. WITHIN THE AUTHORS' SPHERE OF EXPERIENCE, THE VARIOUS TYPES OF EQUIPMENT ARE COMPARED, TOGETHER WITH THE METHODS OF ACTUATION USED BY SOME MANUFACTURERS. THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE CONTROL SYSTEMS IS CONSIDERED WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO FINAL SURFACE RIDING QUALITIES. /RRL/A/
