WEATHER AND TRAFFIC

THE EFFECT OF SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS ON TRAFFIC IS CONSIDERED, UNDER THE MAIN HEADINGS OF THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE, AND THE DRIVER. AN OUTLINE IS GIVEN OF SOME OF THE RESEARCH ON WEATHER HAZARDS WHICH HAS BEEN CARRIED DOUT IN GREAT BRITAIN IN CONNECTION WITH HIGH LEVEL MAJOR ROUTE LOCATIONS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHWAY DESIGN FEATURES TO MINIMIZE SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES TO TRAFFIC. RESEARCH WORK ON THE EFFECT OF WEATHER ON VEHICLE DESIGN AND DRIVER BEHAVIOR IS ALSO DISCUSSED AND CONCLUSIONS ARE DRAWN ON TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS, PARTICULARLY SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS TO COVER HAZARDS ARISING FROM SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS. /AUTHOR/
