OXTON EXPERIMENTAL ROAD IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE CONSISTS OF PLAIN AND REINFORCED SLABS OF VARYING THICKNESS LAID ON VARYING THICKNESSES OF SOIL-CEMENT BASE ON UNIFORM SUBGRADE. SIX IN. PLAIN SLABS FAILED AFTER 5 YEARS OF TRAFFIC, WHEREAS 3- AND 4-IN. REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS WERE STILL SERVICEABLE. EXPERIENCES WITH PRESTRESSED ROADS AND JOINT SPACING ARE MENTIONED.
