THE INELASTIC ANALYSIS OF REINFORCED AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS

THIS REPORT DESCRIBES AN APPROACH FOR THE ANALYSIS OF BEAMS USING A TANGENT STIFFNESS FINITE ELEMENT INCREMENTAL METHOD APPLIED TO A LAYERED ELEMENT. EACH LAYER HAS ITS OWN MODIFIED RAMBERG-OSGOOD TYPE STRESS STRAIN CURVE AND MAY HAVE INELASTIC, CRACKING AND CRUSHING NON-LINEARITIES. COMPARISONS WITH LABORATORY TESTS OF TWO REINFORCED AND ELEVEN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS ARE PRESENTED. THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN ANALYTIC AND LABORATORY LOAD DEFLECTION CURVES IS QUITE GOOD. THE METHOD DESCRIBED USES A PLANE SECTIONS ASSUMPTION TO REDUCE THE COMPUTATIONAL EFFORT. CONSIDERATIONS OF FLEXURAL SHEAR ARE ALSO PRESENTED. /AUTHOR/
