DESIGN OF SLIP BASES FOR BREAK-AWAY SIGNS

THIS REPORT CONCERNS THE DESIGN OF THE SLIP BASE PORTION OF BREAKAWAY SIGN SUPPORTS. IT DEALS WITH THE STRESS ANALYSIS UNDER LABORATORY LOAD SIMULATION CONDITIONS OF A NEW TYPE OF MODIFIED TEXAS SLIP BASE. THIS NEW TYPE, OWING TO ITS LIGHTER WEIGHT AND SIMPLE DESIGN, REPRESENTS A LOWER COST ITEM THAN DESIGNS CURRENTLY IN USE IN KANSAS. THE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH STRAIN GAGE TECHNIQUES AND SURFACE SHEET PHOTOELASTIC STRESS ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES. /AUTHOR/
