THE SELECTION OF ROAD INTERSECTIONS FOR SPECIAL SKID RESISTANCE TREATMENT

SEVENTY PER CENT OF ALL ROAD ACCIDENTS OCCURING IN THE GREATER LONDON AREA OCCUR WITHIN TWENTY YARDS OF ROAD INTERSECTIONS. THIS PAPER IS CONCERNED WITH THE APPLICATION OF AN EPOXY RESIN/CALCINED BAUXITE MATERIAL FOR IMPROVING ROAD SURFACE SKID RESISTANCE AND ITS EFFECTS UPON THE ACCIDENT RECORDS AT ROAD INTERSECTIONS AND PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE POSSIBILITY OF SELECTING SITES FOR TREATMENT FROM THE TYPES OF ACCIDENTS OCCURRING AT A GIVEN LOCATION RATHER THAN FROM SKIDDING TESTS.
