THIS PAPER BRINGS TOGETHER MUCH OF THE BASIC DATA PUBLISHED ON THE RELATION BETWEEN VEHICLE SKIDDING AND THE PROPERTIES OF THE ROAD SURFACE. CONCRETE ROAD SURFACES ARE SHOWN TO HAVE PERFORMED CONSISTENTLY WELL. NEW CONCRETE ROADS CAN BE CONSTRUCTED WITH HIGH SKIDDING RESISTANCE, AND A LABORATORY ACCELERATED-WEAR TEST IS AVAILABLE FOR SURFACE TEXTURE LIFE VERIFICATION.
