CONCRETE REINFORCED WITH FIBROUS WIRE

THE PRESENT STATE OF KNOWLEDGE IN USING SMALL LENGTHS OF CHOPPED WIRE TO ENHANCE CERTAIN PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE IS SUMMARIZED. A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO MIX DESIGN AND MEASUREMENT OF THE ENSUING MATERIAL PROPERTIES IS NEEDED. IMPORTANT POINTS EMERGED: WIRE FIBER INCLUSION HAS A MARKED EFFECT ON WORKABILITY, THIN SECTIONS SHOW CONSIDERABLE STRENGTH IMPROVEMENTS, IMPROVEMENTS ARE NOTED IN IMPACT RESISTANCE AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY, AND STEEL FIBER INCLUSION INCREASES BOTH THE MATERIAL AND THE HANDLING COSTS OF THE CONCRETE. /AUTHOR/
