COMMENTS ON THE LONG-TERM TENSILE STRENGTH OF PLAIN CONCRETE

THE VARIATION OF THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE WITH AGE, AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE COMPRESSIVE AND THE TENSILE STRENGTH DURING HARDENING ARE INVESTIGATED. SOME FACTORS INFLUENCING THE VARIATION OF STRENGTH AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VARIOUS STRENGTH PARAMETERS ARE STUDIED. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE INCREASE OF INDIVIDUAL STRENGTH PARAMETERS DIFFERS ACCORDING TO THE AGE OF THE CONCRETE, SO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS ESPECIALLY THAT BETWEEN THE TENSILE AND COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH IS AFFECTED BY THE AGE OF THE CONCRETE. THEREFORE, THE DETERMINATION OF TENSILE STRENGTH FROM THE COMPRESSIVE OR VICE VERSA MUST BE CARRIED OUT VERY CAREFULLY. /AUTHOR/
