MULTIAXIAL FAILURE DIAGRAM FOR CONCRETE

DIAGRAMS ARE DERIVED WHICH OFFER A SIMPLE METHOD OF CHECKING A MULTIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRESS SYSTEM IN CONCRETE FOR POSSIBLE FAILURE. THE DIAGRAMS ARE BASED ON PUBLISHED EXPERIMENTAL DATA. MANY EXPERIMENTAL DATA ARE AVAILABLE ON UNIAXIAL AND BIAXIAL FAILURE, BUT RATHER FEWER ON TRIAXIAL. THE DIFFICULTY IS IN COLLATING THE AVAILABLE DATA INTO A FORM CONVENIENT FOR USE IN DESIGN. THIS NOTE DESCRIBES A FORM OF DIAGRAM WHICH CAN BE USED TO CHECK THE LIKELIHOOD OF ULTIMATE FAILURE FOR A MULTIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRESS SYSTEM. AN ADDITIONAL DIAGRAM IS DERIVED WHICH ENABLES THE ALLOWABLE RANGE OF STRESS IN THE THIRD DIRECTION TO BE READ DIRECTLY FOR ANY GIVEN BIAXIAL COMBINATION OF STRESSES.
