FAULTING OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A NUMBER OF EXPERIMENTAL SHOULDER FEATURES WHICH HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED INTO CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. ALSO REPORTED IS A LABORATORY STUDY OF LEAN CONCRETE BASE (WET-LEAN CEMENT TREATED BASE LCTB). THIS MATERIAL COULD BE PLACED WITH A SLIPFORM PAVER USING INTERNAL VIBRATION. ADVANTAGES WOULD BE THE ELIMINATION OF TRIMING OF LCTB AND A SUPERIOR ABRASON RESISTANCE. OTHER EXPERIMENTAL CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN FEATURES WHICH COULD HAVE AN EFFECT ON FAULTING ARE BRIEFLY COVERED. /FHWA/
