THE SIMULATION OF PAVEMENT TEMPERATURES FROM FINITE DIFFERENCE CONSIDERATIONS

THE REPORT DESCRIBES THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE PREDICTION OF CLIMATALOGICAL AND PHYSICAL FACTORS AS AN AID TO PAVEMENT DESIGN PROCEDURE. THE MODEL IS BASED ON A FORWARD FINITE DIFFERENCE INTERPRETATION OF ONE DIMENSIONAL HEAT FLOW. DETAILS OF THE OPERATIONS OF THE MODEL, WRITTEN AS A FORTRAN PROGRAM, ARE GIVEN AND THE RESULTS OF A COMPREHENSIVE SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS ARE REPORTED. APPLICATIONS OF THE MODEL IN SEVERAL INSTANCES ARE PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF A SERIES OF CASE STUDIES IN WHICH DETAILS PERTAINING TO ITS FINEST MODE OF APPLICATIONS ARE PRESENTED. /TRRL/
