DETERMINIG OF THE BEST TIME TO SAW THE JOINTS FOR CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

DETERMINACION DEL MOMENTO OPTIMO DE SERRADO DE JUNTAS EN PAVIMENTOS DE HORMIGON

The joints on concrete pavements are sawn to prevent random fissuring from taking place; this phenomenon is mainly a result of the thermic and hygrometric shrinking that occurs in the concrete during the first few hours after laying. The best time to saw is determined in the laboratory using the following methods: Climatized chamber, ultrasonic energy devices, I.E.T.vibroroller. A graph is prepared, taking into the characteristics of the materials and the environmental conditions. The most suitable time to saw is recorded on the basis of the folloing criteria: the temperature and moisture in the environment, the wind speed on the surface and solar irradiation.
