FAILURE OF CONCRETE UNDER REPEATED TRAFFIC LOADING

THE ROAD RESEARCH LABORATORY HAS RECENTLY EMBARKED ON AN EXTENSIVE PROGRAM OF FATIGUE TESTS ON ROAD MATERIALS. DETAILS OF THAT PORTION OF THE PROGRAM WHICH DEALS WITH CONCRETE ARE GIVEN, PRECEDED BY A HISTORICAL SURVEY OF PREVIOUS RESEARCH, THE RESULTS OF WHICH HAVE FORMED THE BASIS OF THE PRESENT INVESTIGATION. ALTHOUGH THE FATIGUE OF CONCRETE HAS BEEN STUDIED FOR MORE THAN 70 YEARS, IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO DRAW VALID CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF VARIABLES WHICH MAY INFLUENCE THE FATIGUE LIFE OF CONCRETE ROADS. /RRL(A)/
