'INSTANT' TESTING OF CONCRETE MIXES

THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF CONCRETE TESTING ARE EXAMINED. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE 'POST-MORTEM' ASPECTS OF CURRENT TESTING METHODS, AND A THEORETICAL CASE FOR THE 'INSTANT' TESTING OF CONCRETE IS DEVELOPED. BOTH AT THE POINT OF DELIVERY AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMPACTION HAS TAKEN PLACE. POSSIBLE TECHNIQUES OF 'INSTANT' TESTING ARE SUGGESTED, AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUITABLE APPARATUS ARE OUTLINED. REFERENCE IS MADE TO VARIOUS RESEARCHES AND METHODS OF TESTING WHICH APPEAR TO BE GERMANE TO THE 'INSTANT' TESTING CONCEPT. /A/RR/
